For over 75 years a group of 45 disadvantaged children aged 9-11 are taken on a summer holiday to Snowdonia for an outdoor activity week. The camp, which is based at an outdoor education centre and run entirely by volunteers, includes a wide range of activities, from arts and crafts to canoeing, from nerf games to gorge walking. The activities are designed to help the children develop new confidence, skills and ultimately have a brilliant holiday together.
We like to make sure the kids have a great time and we run a camp fete day. To make it a little bit special we have industrial grade Popcorn and Candy Floss machines. As the camp only runs for one week a year we make these machines available to Charities and Schools in the area local to Worthing and Brighton (where most of our volunteers are based) to help them raise money. We offer the machines free of charge but if you can donate something to Wirral Camp then that would be great! For further information about the camp check out the Wirral Camp website.
If you would like to borrow the machines for your event please email: neilambroseuk@gmail.com
We rely entirely on volunteers and donations to make this week possible. It costs us £371 to provide a holiday to a child who needs one. Can you support us?
Check out the video from the distributor of the Popcorn machine for a quick and simple tutorial.
At the end of your event please ensure the machine is cleaned and then sanitised using the provided cleaning solution (directions on the bottle).
The Popcorn machine uses 1600w of power so will need at least a 7 amp electrical supply. The machine should only be connected to an earthed and RCD protected circuit. The machine is regularly inspected and PAT tested but it may need to be tested by your organisation or venue. If you are unsure of the electrial requirements please consult a qualified electrician.
Any popping corn will work with the machine and a little goes a long way.
There are a ton of options for boxes and bags on Amazon. It is worth working out now big you think you will need and still make a profit.
Standard caster sugar and table salt work best for flavouring. You can either buy at the local super market or a cash and carry. You need a good amount of sugar to keeps kids happy!
Standard sunflower oil tends to work best as it is stable at high temperatures and doesn't burn easily. Three or four 1.5 litre bottles from the supermarket should be enough for an average event.

I recommend Flosssugar, two 1.47kg packs (available on Amazon) will support a small event running for a couple of hours.
